Started playing in garage bands at 11 years of age in Battle Creek Michigan. My bandmate and teacher was Skipper Gil, a guy who really loved Buddy Holly and all the 50’s rock genre. I was never a big fan of Holly - I rather liked the Hollies better.

I played rhythm guitar– not really well – but I loved my little Melody Maker and my Fender Reverb amp and I was in seventh heaven playing that set up. I was a real newbie - what I wouldn’t give to do that all over again!

I went on shortly after to Europe! Toured Italy (like the distance from SF to LA) with my cousin's band (the Shadows) and two other bands from Agropoli that provided quite a fascinating trip.

I didn't play guitar in the band but only sang the songs. I asked once how they happen to pick me to be their singer and they said “oh well, you can sing in English”. I guess that was a lot better than a garbled Italian translation.

Back in the US(SR), in the late 60s, I hung out and played acoustic guitar with friends but never got it together to push myself out into a public venue. I really wish I would've formed a band back then because right from there, I went on to the workaday world and never really performed again until my retirement in 2014 - a lifetime.

Now I've been writing and performing for myself mostly. I will try some open mic someday and then maybe see what happens from there. That would probably help me get out of the house a little. Thanks for listening to my ramble. ... more
